CREEPY BOOK RECOMMENDATIONS

HELLO EVERYONE! First off, I'd like to apologize for not posting for over *gasp* a month. (!!!) If you want to keep updated with me my instagram and twitter are both @haileysbooks . I update every day on there!

Secondly, if you live in the northern hemisphere, FALL IS UPON US! Which means chunky sweaters, hot tea, curling up with a great book, and of course, HALLOWEEN!
Now if you are like me and don't go trick-or-treating (too old) or go to any Halloween parities, (I'm sure my invites get lost in the mail...) Halloween can be an uneventful night consisting of handing out treats to kids and stuffing your face with candy.(I'm not the only one...right?)

So instead of just handing out treats to little kids and wondering how invites get lost in the mail, dive into a creepy book, it'll keep you biting your nails the whole night! (And reading is so much more fun then going to some crazy party, amIright?)

So what are you waiting for? Grab some candy corn and check out these creepy books!
(PS All the titles are linked to a direct buying link to Amazon!)

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs

A mysterious island.

An abandoned orphanage.

A strange collection of very curious photographs.

It all waits to be discovered in Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, an unforgettable novel that mixes fiction and photography in a thrilling reading experience. As our story opens, a horrific family tragedy sets sixteen-year-old Jacob journeying to a remote island off the coast of Wales, where he discovers the crumbling ruins of Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children. As Jacob explores its abandoned bedrooms and hallways, it becomes clear that the children were more than just peculiar. They may have been dangerous. They may have been quarantined on a deserted island for good reason. And somehow—impossible though it seems—they may still be alive.

A spine-tingling fantasy illustrated with haunting vintage photography, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children will delight adults, teens, and anyone who relishes an adventure in the shadows.

9378297Anna Dressed In Blood by Kendare Blake

Cas Lowood has inherited an unusual vocation: He kills the dead.
So did his father before him, until he was gruesomely murdered by a ghost he sought to kill. Now, armed with his father's mysterious and deadly athame, Cas travels the country with his kitchen-witch mother and their spirit-sniffing cat. They follow legends and local lore, destroy the murderous dead, and keep pesky things like the future and friends at bay.
Searching for a ghost the locals call Anna Dressed in Blood, Cas expects the usual: track, hunt, kill. What he finds instead is a girl entangled in curses and rage, a ghost like he's never faced before. She still wears the dress she wore on the day of her brutal murder in 1958: once white, now stained red and dripping with blood. Since her death, Anna has killed any and every person who has dared to step into the deserted Victorian she used to call home.
Yet she spares Cas's life.

That's all I have for you today! Have a safe and fun Halloween!

What I'm Reading....

Afterworlds (ARC... Stay tuned for a review!) by Scott Westerfeld

Summary

Darcy Patel has put college on hold to publish her teen novel, Afterworlds. With a contract in hand, she arrives in New York City with no apartment, no friends, and all the wrong clothes. But lucky for Darcy, she's taken under the wings of other seasoned and fledgling writers who help her navigate the city and the world of writing and publishing. Over the course of a year, Darcy finishes her book, faces critique, and falls in love.

Woven into Darcy's personal story is her novel, Afterworlds, a suspenseful thriller about a teen who slips into the "Afterworld" to survive a terrorist attack. The Afterworld is a place between the living and the dead, and where many unsolved-and terrifying-stories need to be reconciled. Like Darcy, Lizzie too falls in love…until a new threat resurfaces, and her special gifts may not be enough to protect those she cares about most.

Anna and the French Kiss Review!

Stephanie Perkins
Anna and the French Kiss
Speak Publishing August 9, 2011
$10.99
0142419400

5/5 stars, recommend to everyone (yes, it is that great)

If you are looking for an "aw" worthy, I-can't-take-my-eyes-off-the-page chick-lit, Anna and the French Kiss is the book for you.

Set during a full school year, Anna, a funny, quirky girl with a passion for reviewing movies, is sent to The School of America in France for her senior year. Upset from leaving her friends and a possible boyfriend at home, she arrives in France alone and worried. (and lost). Thankfully, Anna is soon taken under the wing of her new friends, including Etienne St. Clair. (Que a hundred teenage girls screaming).

Etienne, or St. Clair as called by his friends, is every teenage girls dream boyfriend. With amazing hair, gorgeous eyes, and *gasps* a British accent, Anna is attracted to him at first sight. The only thing unattractive about him, though, is that he has a girlfriend.

As the school year unfolds, so do the characters, which are more complex and layered near the end. Especially Etienne, who we get to see every side of, and we, and Etienne, experience great character development with him.

Throughout the year, Anna and her charming friends go on nights in town, watch movies, drink hot chocolate, and get in a lot of drama, such as: drama between Anna and the "mean girl" at school, Anna and her friends, and Anna and Etienne, which is by far the worst (or the best) and most frustrating. (Think yell-at-your-book and rip-out-your-hair frustrating).
But the drama, although frustrating, keeps you addicted to the story, and will keep you wondering how it will end.

Not all the story is drama, don't worry! Although I like myself some great drama, I do like cute and realistic romance more, which Anna and the French Kiss delivers, in abundance. (YES!) The Anna and Etienne chemistry will leave you smiling uncontrollably, sighing happily, and wondering, "JUST GET TOGETHER ALREADY" as you read on.

Anna and the French Kiss is one of those feel-good chick-lits that will keep you entertained and attached while you read, and leave you feeling satisfied after the ending. If you're looking for a *quick, great, book with lots of feels and a VERY ATTRACTIVE American-French guy with a British accent (what's not to love?) do yourself a favor and pick this book up. You won't be let down.

*as in, finish-it-in-one-day quick

NOTE: This is my first review, so I am sorry if there are mistakes or is not professional

On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles alongside her fellow initiates to live out the choice they have made. Together they must undergo extreme physical tests of endurance and intense psychological simulations, some with devastating consequences. As initiation transforms them all, Tris must determine who her friends really are-and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes exasperating boy fits into the life she''s chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she''s kept hidden from everyone because she''s been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers unrest and growing conflict that threaten to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

Eros, now calling herself True, immediately identifies her first project in Charlie and believes finding him love will be a piece of cake. Charlie is new at school and eager to break out of his old image of band geek, so it's lucky for him when he falls in with the right crowd on his first day. But music is still his passion. That is, until he meets Katrina... Katrina is floundering after the death of her father and takes refuge with a boy who, while not entirely supportive, will be there when she needs him, unlike her mother. Too bad True thinks any girl Charlie talks to is perfect for him. Can she get out of her own way and help Charlie and Katrina connect, or will she be stuck in New Jersey forever?

 8. Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

  9. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Or was he a boy? This is Clary's first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It's also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace's world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know... Exotic and gritty, exhilarating and utterly gripping, Cassandra Clare's ferociously entertaining fantasy takes readers on a wild ride that they will never want to end.

10. Twenty Boy Summer by Sarah Ockler
Summary- "Don't worry, Anna. I''ll tell her, okay? Just let me think about the best way to do it." "Okay." "Promise me? Promise you won''t say anything?" "Don't worry." I laughed. "It's our secret, right?" According to her best friend Frankie, twenty days in Zanzibar Bay is the perfect opportunity to have a summer fling, and if they meet one boy every day, there's a pretty good chance Anna will find her first summer romance. Anna lightheartedly agrees to the game, but there's something she hasn't told Frankie---she's already had that kind of romance, and it was with Frankie's older brother, Matt, just before his tragic death one year ago. Beautifully written and emotionally honest, this is a debut novel that explores what it truly means to love someone and what it means to grieve, and ultimately, how to make the most of every single moment this world has to offer.

I hope you enjoyed all my summer reading recommendations and I hope you all have a wonderful summer filled with fun and reading, and I'll see you next time!
